Last week, I found myself sketching out a data architecture on a whiteboard — something I’ve done countless times over the past two decades. But this time felt different. As I drew the familiar boxes and arrows, I realized how dramatically our approach to data architecture has evolved, particularly in this new age of AI.

Remember when we used to build monolithic data warehouses? Everything had to flow through a single, centralized system. It was like trying to force all traffic through one highway — efficient in theory, but prone to bottlenecks and gridlock in practice. Today, we’re seeing a fundamental shift toward what we call composable architectures, and it’s transforming how we think about data management.
